This past decade India has managed to connect every household to the national grid. But what does it actually mean? In rural India there is a real lack of reliable source of energy for domestic and commercial use.
In this video I meet with the social enterprise Oorja in the north of India. They put in place a quite interesting system. As they don’t have access to electricity, the farmers of this area used diesel pumps to irrigate their fields, that are not environmentally friendly, bad for health and really expensive. To respond to this problem Oorja implemented solar pumps that farmers can use on demand and only pay for what they use. It is a great improvement for them as they don’t have to invest in the technology themselves and they can now control the irrigation of their field and increase their income.
See you next week!
